Transnational Meeting No. 2 Norway

EU4Blue in Stavanger, Exploring Water, Marine Life and Sustainability - A European Learning Adventure

Hosted by the International School of Stavanger, the meeting focused on water quality, marine ecosystems and sustainability. Through scientific investigations, educational activities and international teamwork, participants explored different aspects of Ocean Literacy.

One highlight was a lecture by a professor from the University of Stavanger on sustainable fisheries and the importance of protecting marine resources, which also took place online so that students from Ratingen and Muhos could join virtually as part of our second virtual lecture. Participants explored how responsible fishing practices contribute to healthy ocean ecosystems and a sustainable Blue Economy.

At Lake Stokka, students collected water samples in international groups and subsequently examined them in the school's laboratory. Also, a cleanup was organised at the lake. This hands-on activity demonstrated how scientific methods can help us understand water quality and environmental conditions.

Throughout the week, participants also created photographs, videos, presentations for their teaching materials.

An excursion to Frafjord offered an opportunity to experience Norway's impressive fjord landscape. Canoeing and stand-up paddling brought students into direct contact with the coastal environment, where they encountered marine life, including jellyfish and starfish.

The Stavanger meeting combined scientific learning, environmental awareness and European cooperation. It demonstrated how Ocean Literacy connects freshwater ecosystems, marine resources and everyday life.

The experiences and ideas gained during the mobility contributed to EU4Blue's wider goal of making Ocean Literacy accessible to young people through interdisciplinary education and international collaboration.

Virtual Lecture No.2 Blue Economy -
Ask the Expert!

University of Stavanger, Norway | EU4Blue During Transnational Meeting in Stavanger

As part of the Erasmus+ project EU4Blue – Taking Action at School, students and teachers from Germany, Finland and Norway attended a lecture on sustainable fisheries delivered by a professor from the University of Stavanger. Students from Ratingen and Muhos were able to join virtually.

The lecture explored the importance of responsible fishing practices and the sustainable use of marine resources. It highlighted the relationship between fisheries, marine ecosystems and environmental protection.

The topic is closely connected to Ocean Literacy and the Blue Economy, demonstrating how economic activities depend on healthy oceans and why sustainable management of marine resources matters for the future.

The lecture provided a valuable scientific perspective and contributed to the international exchange of knowledge within EU4Blue.

EU4Blue at TCA "Green Erasmus- A contribution to Europe's Green Transition?"

EU4Blue at Green Erasmus – Lüneburg, Germany

21–23 May 2025 | Dissemination & European Networking

EU4Blue was presented during the international Training and Cooperation Activity (TCA) “Green Erasmus – A contribution to Europe’s green transition?!”, organised by the German National Agency at the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (NA-BIBB).

The event brought together 70 participants from 18 European countries to exchange experiences and explore how Erasmus+ projects can contribute to environmental sustainability.

Presenting EU4Blue provided an opportunity to introduce our project objectives, share our approach to Ocean Literacy and raise awareness of our European school partnership beyond the participating institutions.

The event also offered opportunities for professional exchange and networking with educators and Erasmus+ practitioners from across Europe.

Virtual Lecture No. 3-

Local Action for Cleaner Oceans

Ratingen, Germany | September 2025

As part of the Erasmus+ project EU4Blue – Taking Action at School, students from Adam-Josef-Cüppers-Berufskolleg took part in a local clean-up activity to raise awareness of litter pollution and its impact on rivers and oceans.

By collecting waste from their local environment, students demonstrated how practical environmental action can contribute to protecting waterways and marine ecosystems.

The activity reflected a central message of Ocean Literacy: protecting our oceans starts with taking responsibility for our local environment.

Our clean-up initiative also attracted attention from the local press.

Transnational Meeting No. 3 Germany

From 4 to 9 May 2026, the Adam-Josef-Cüppers-Berufskolleg in Ratingen hosted the third transnational meeting of the Erasmus+ project EU4Blue – Taking Action at School. Students and teachers from Germany, Finland and Norway came together to explore the importance of water for the environment, industry and everyday life.

The programme combined hands-on environmental activities, educational visits and international teamwork. It offered participants different perspectives on Ocean Literacy, demonstrating how closely rivers, freshwater ecosystems, water management and economic development are connected.

Our clean-up initiative also attracted attention from the local press.

RhineCleanup
 2026

Ratingen, Germany | 16 October 2026

Around 180 students from Adam-Josef-Cüppers-Berufskolleg and the neighbouring Minoritenschule joined forces for a clean-up activity organised as part of EU4Blue.

Older students supported the primary school children as they collected litter from the local environment. Before setting off, the younger participants received a short introduction to safe litter collection and the importance of keeping waste out of nature.

The activity brought together environmental education, practical action and cooperation between two neighbouring schools. Afterwards, participants rounded off the event with a shared hot-dog lunch.
