Transnational Meetings - Learning Together Across Europe

Our three transnational meetings in Finland, Norway and Germany brought students and teachers from the EU4Blue partner schools together to explore Ocean Literacy through hands-on learning, scientific investigations and international cooperation.

From Finland's lakes and unique freshwater landscapes to Norway's coastal ecosystems and Germany's rivers and industrial waterways, each meeting offered different perspectives on the importance of water for our environment, society and economy.

Through educational visits, practical activities and collaborative project work, participants exchanged knowledge, developed learning materials and experienced how Ocean Literacy connects different subjects and everyday life.

Finland – Exploring Freshwater Ecosystems, Discovering Wetlands and Biodiversity

Hosted by Muhoksen lukio, our first transnational meeting brought students and teachers from Germany, Finland and Norway together to explore freshwater ecosystems, sustainable water management and Finland's unique natural landscapes.

Highlights included exploring Rokua UNESCO Global Geopark, learning about hydroelectric power at Pyhäkoski, discovering the wetlands of Liminka Bay and examining the importance of fish migration at the Oulujoki Fish Ladder.

Through educational visits, practical learning activities and international teamwork, participants explored the connections between water, biodiversity and sustainability. The meeting also provided opportunities to exchange ideas and work together on educational materials, contributing to EU4Blue's shared goal of promoting Ocean Literacy across Europe.

Norway – Exploring Marine Ecosystems, Water Quality and Sustainability

Hosted by the International School of Stavanger, our second transnational meeting brought students and teachers from Germany, Finland and Norway together to explore marine ecosystems, water quality and sustainability.

Highlights included a lecture on sustainable fisheries at the University of Stavanger, water sampling and laboratory investigations at Lake Stokka, and an excursion to the beautiful Frafjord. International teamwork and the development of educational materials were also important parts of the programme.

The meeting combined scientific learning, practical experiences and intercultural exchange, strengthening our shared commitment to Ocean Literacy and the protection of aquatic environments.

Germany – Exploring Water, Industry and Sustainability

From 4 to 9 May 2026, the Adam-Josef-Cüppers-Berufskolleg in Ratingen hosted the third transnational meeting of the Erasmus+ project EU4Blue – Taking Action at School. Students and teachers from Germany, Finland and Norway came together to explore the importance of water for the environment, industry and everyday life.

The programme combined hands-on environmental activities, educational visits and international teamwork. It offered participants different perspectives on Ocean Literacy, demonstrating how closely rivers, freshwater ecosystems, water management and economic development are connected.
